Continuing education should be enjoyable – With the Cisco Continuing Education Program, you decide which training you want to use to renew your certification. This long-term continuing education program offers you flexible options to expand, maintain, and deepen your certifications, knowledge, and skills. Stay up to date as an IT professional and maintain your Cisco Professional status. Simply collect CE credits per training course and apply them toward your recertification!

Through the Continuing Education Program, Cisco offers a wide range of options for recertification. In addition to traditional exams, Cisco-certified IT professionals can renew their certification by choosing from a variety of continuing education options that help maintain, expand, or deepen their skills.


How recertification works

To recertify through the Continuing Education Program, please note the following steps:

  • Enroll in the program by signing in to the Continuing Education Portal
  • Accept the Continuing Education terms and conditions as part of the enrollment process
  • Complete your chosen recertification path, which may include earning a specific number of CE credits from pre-approved continuing education offerings.
  • Submit your CE credits for completed courses within 90 days via the Continuing Education Portal.
  • Track your progress in the Certification Tracking System, except for CCIE/CCDE
  • CCIE/CCDE recertification status can be tracked via the CCIE Tracker
  • Recertification is processed automatically once the criteria have been met/approved
  • Candidates must hold an active certification, from the date the certification is earned until the certification/recertification expiration date, in order to receive credit
  • The Site ID for courses in Germany is 61700.
    Whether attending online or in the classroom, this ID applies to all courses taken with Fast Lane Germany.
    This ID must be selected when submitting a request via the CE Portal.

The Cisco recertification policy applies.


Continuing Education Requirements

Earn 30 CE credits

Specialist - 3 years

Earn 40 CE credits

Professional - 3 years

Earn 80 CE credits

  • Pass any Professional Concentration exam and earn 40 CE credits

CCIE – 3 years

Earn 120 CE credits

  • Pass one Technology Core exam and earn 40 CE credits
  • Pass any two Professional Concentration exams and earn 40 CE credits
  • Pass any one Professional Concentration exam and earn 80 CE credits

CCDE – 3 years

Earn 120 CE credits

  • Pass one Technology Core exam and earn 40 CE credits
  • Pass any two Professional Concentration exams and earn 40 CE credits
  • Pass any one Professional Concentration exam and earn 80 CE credits

Continuing Education credits can only be earned for completing the same course multiple times if a major revision has taken place since the last completion/claim. Credits cannot be earned a second time for minor version updates of a course.

  • If credits were previously granted for v1.x, credit MAY be requested for later completion of v2.x, v3.x, etc. of the same training course, for example PRNE 1.0 and PRNE 2.0.
  • If credits have already been granted for v1.0, they CANNOT be claimed for later completion of v1.1, v1.2, etc., for example ENCOR 1.0, ENCOR 1.1, ENCOR 1.2.
  • Credits CANNOT be claimed for customer and partner versions of the same course, for example A-SDA-FASTSTART/P-SDA-FASTSTART or CUST-SDA-ISE/P-SDA-ISE.
  • Credits are awarded for completing alpha training courses. No Continuing Education credits are awarded for submitting the officially released version of the same course.
