Please note that prepayment is required for participation in a Dell EMC training course. Participation in a training course is possible for 12 months after booking the course. Cancellations are excluded.

Who should attend

This course is intended for anyone who performs troubleshooting and maintenance of storage area networks. This is an expert-level course and lecture and lab material are designed for students who already have a highlevel of understanding of these subjects.

Prerequisites

To understand the content and successfully complete this course, a student must have a suitable knowledgebase/skill set. The student must have an understanding of:

  • TCP/IP, FCP, iSCSI, FCIP, and FCoE storage protocols
  • Provisioning storage from EMC arrays to multiple host types
  • Configuring EMC storage arrays
  • Configuring Connectrix SAN switches
  • Creating zones, zone sets, VSANs, LUN masking, and other logical configurations
  • Performing system administration tasks on multiple host types
  • Configuring FC and IP networking on hosts and switches

A list of specific prerequisite courses can be found in EMC Education Services Learning Management System.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Define the basic troubleshooting process
  • Locate key troubleshooting data points
  • List the tools used in SAN troubleshooting
  • Analyze and correct ISL issues
  • Analyze and correct fabric merge failures
  • Show how to find and resolve virtualized SAN issues
  • List the steps to find and resolve routing and trunking issues
  • Analyze and correct Virtual Fabric and VSAN issues
  • Analyze and correct iSCSI Discovery issues
  • Analyze and correct IP Bridging devices
  • Resolve security issues in the SAN
  • Determine CNA connectivity issues
  • Use tools to trace errors for root cause determination

Course Content

This course will allow the student to build solid troubleshooting techniques and use them in determining issues within an operating SAN. An in-depth exploration of the Storage Networking protocols; Fibre Channel, iSCSI, FCIP, and FCoE is used as the basis for problem detection and resolution. Expertlevel discussion and review of the SAN environment and components allows an understanding of the potential problems and bottlenecks found in the SAN. Data gathering and analysis from hosts, storage, and SAN devices will be used for root cause analysis. Problem isolation, action planning and troubleshooting within an active SAN environment will be a focus using hands on labs and multiple complex scenarios.

The content of this course is designed to support the course objectives.
