Course Overview
This course is designed to provide an understanding of the fundamental concepts and applications of the Universal Discovery (UD) solution. You learn various discovery methods and learn how to implement these methods. The hands-on lab environment uses the latest version of UD. Highlights:
- Introduce federation and leveraging of actionable information in the contextof Discovery operations and management.

This course is recommended for application or system support personnel or anyone who needs an overview of the capabilities of Universal Discovery.
Prerequisites
To be successful in this course, you should have the following prerequisites or knowledge:
- General knowledge of IT operations, familiarity with business services and service management
- Familiarity with the ITIL V3 Foundations subject area and the Configuration Management System
- (CMS) in particular
- Background in network or enterprise application administration and knowledge of enterprise architectures in a production IT infrastructure
- Working knowledge of websites and browsers
- Familiarity with testing concepts
Course Objectives
On completion of this course, participants should be able to:
- Identify the evolution of the Configuration Management System (CMS) from the Configuration
- Management Database (CMDB), the need for CMS, and working of CMS
- Define the concept of Universal Discovery (UD) and be able to identify its applications and types
- Identify the architecture and deployment process of UD, and the installation and setup of the data flow probe and its log files
- Define the concepts of discovery adapters, discovery jobs, discovery scripts, and other discovery resources
- Use CMS UI and Admin UI for discovery activities
- Design and build agentless and agent-based discoveries, and use inventory scanners
- Work with the Software Library Viewer and various inventory tools
- Use the application recognition process and discovery rules
- Use the Discovery Troubleshooter
- Get an introduction to Automated Service Modeling
- Use UD to support UCMDB integrations
- Perform application dependency mapping discovery and inventory discovery
- Use the zone-based discovery method and discovery activities
