Who should attend

Cascade Configuration & Operations is targeted specifically for Riverbed resellers/partners and customers involved in the design, deployment, or administration/technical support of the Riverbed Cascade solution.


A good understanding and experience of:

  • Network monitoring and management concepts and tools such as NetFlow, network taps, packet capture and analysis, and so forth
  • Certification as an RCSA/RCSP/CCNA or the equivalent internetworking knowledge is very helpful (network design, operations, and troubleshooting)
  • Steelhead Appliance Deployment & Management training course is recommended
  • Participants are required to bring along their own laptops AND Java is required to be installed and allowed in the browser on the student laptop

Course Objectives

  • List key features and benefits of the Cascade system Size and configure the Cascade appliances for various networks
  • Describe how Cascade uses network flows and integrations of appropriate technologies such as DNS, DHCP, and SNMP to obtain more holistic network visibility and provide actionable network informatics
  • Leverage Cascade Service Definitions to quickly and intuitively discover, track, and alert on abnormal behaviors of critical business applications
  • Create groupings of network hosts, interfaces, and applications to allow useful analytics and report creation, and deciphering of events
  • Generate both simple and custom reports
  • Create both simple and custom analytics and alert criteria to insure interested parties are aware of business-critical events

Course Content

Cascade Configuration & Operations is a lab-intensive course delivered by Riverbed technical experts. This task-oriented course imparts the knowledge and skills needed to configure and administer the Riverbed Cascade solution. This course covers the Cascade Profiler, Gateway, and Sensor appliances only. The Cascade Shark & Pilot Configuration & Operations course covers the Shark appliance and Pilot Console software.
