Who should attend

This basic course is for system operators and production control staff who monitor and restart batch jobs in a Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS environment.

Prerequisites

You should have basic z/OS Operator skills.

Course Objectives

  • Describe the basic Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS job scheduling components
  • Tailor your Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS user ISPF panel profile
  • Use the Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS ISPF window to query the status of work in progress
  • Define Workstation Ready List layouts
  • Use Workstation Ready Lists to:
    • Specify overrides
    • Edit JCL for jobs in the current plan
    • Change the status of operations in the current plan
  • Correct and restart failed operations at Job level and step level
  • Rerun completed operations Job level and step level
  • Replace existing JCL or scripts for jobs in the current plan
  • Add and delete dependencies for operations in the current plan
  • Change operation workstations in the current plan
  • Suppress or enable the execution of selected jobs in the current plan
  • Modify job-run and job-start options for operations in the current plan
  • Modify data set cleanup action lists for restarted jobs
  • Add unscheduled (adhoc or onrequest) work to the current plan

  • Unit 1 - Introduction
  • Unit 2 - Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS commands and user options
    • Exercises: Tailoring your IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler for z/OS user profile
  • Unit 3 - The current plan
  • Unit 4 - Browsing the current plan
    • Exercises: Monitoring the current plan using standard and advanced ISPF panels
  • Unit 5 - Workstation Communication
    • Exercises: Creating and using workstation ready lists
  • Unit 6 - Modifying the current plan I
    • Exercises: Error handling and simple job restarts
  • Unit 7 - Modifying the current plan II
    • Exercises: Rerun occurrences, using the EX command, replacing JCL for jobs in the CP, managing on-request work, restart and cleanup
  • Unit 8 - Using the IBM Tivoli Dynamic Workload Console
    • Exercise: Using the IBM Tivoli Dynamic Workload Console
